forces are using golf carts and motorbikes to launch quick assaults near Siversk in an attempt to gain ground ahead of the winter freeze.
According to UkrInform, Anastasiia Bobbyvnikova, spokesperson of the “Luhansk Operational-Tactical Group”, conducted 11 offensive operations in the areas Toretsk, Chasiv Yar and Donetsk Oblast on 24 October.
Toretsk is a settlement of strategic importance. It has been a Ukrainian stronghold ever since Russia’s 2014 invasion. Controlling the city would allow Russian forces to advance further in Donetsk oblast, which is a key goal in their military campaign.
The capture of Chasiv Yar would allow the Russian military to launch an offensive against other cities in the region–, Druzhkivka, , and .
In April 2024 the Ukrainian Spokesperson Lieutenant Col. Nazar Voloshyn stated that the loss of the city would severely complicate the situation for Ukrainian Forces, as all logistic routes in the region would be in Russia’s hands.
“The worst situation is reported to be near Chasiv Yar, and Toretsk.” Unfortunately, both settlements are the hardest areas. Five assaults took place today in the Stupochky District, a little to the south of Chasiv Yar. In the Toretsk district, six occurred.
The Ukrainian military spokesperson stated that Russian groups consisting infantry squads of 3 to 5 people try to storm and break through Ukrainian defences without equipment. Russian motorized rifle brigades have also been stationed near Toretsk.
The spokesperson explained that “the Russian military sends personnel to the frontlines, mostly at night. They replenish losses and then, from newly established positions they launch attacks on our troops.”
Bobovnikova noted that on the Siversk Front are using golf carts or motorcycles to assault, trying as much territory as they can before winter.
“There are a lot of there.” A Russian airborne division, for example, is stationed directly opposite Chasiv Yar. The Russian airborne units have better equipment and are trying harder to gather more in the forested terrain around Chasiv Yar. “A canal near Chasiv Yar, which is controlled by our artillery, prevents them from using their equipment for assaults,” Bobovnikova concluded.
The Ukrainian spokesperson had earlier stated that the number enemy assault actions on the Kramatorsk front, Toretsk front, and Siversk has decreased slightly.
The situation in Toretsk is also stabilizing, as the Ukrainian Forces are preventing to advance beyond the eastern part of the city.
