**Russia Warns of “Appropriate Response” Over US Missile Decision**
Russia has said it will respond to the decision by the United States to allow Ukraine to use long-range missiles against targets in Russia. The foreign ministry stated that an attack inside Russian territory would be seen as direct involvement of the US and its allies in hostilities against Russia.
**US Policy Change**
This change in policy comes just two months before President Joe Biden is set to leave office, with his successor Donald Trump promising to end the Russia-Ukraine war. The decision allows Ukraine to use ATACMS missiles with a range of 300km (190 miles) against targets in Russia.
**Russia Intensifies Attacks**
As tensions rise, Russia has intensified its attacks on Ukrainian infrastructure, causing large-scale blackouts and killing several people over the weekend. A recent strike on Odesa killed another 10 people and injured nearly 50.
**North Korean Troops Arrive**
The US decision also comes as North Korea sends troops to help Russia in the war-torn Kursk region. Unconfirmed reports suggest up to 100,000 soldiers may be sent, along with artillery and other weapons.
**No Formal Announcement**
Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky has indicated that there may be no formal announcement of the US deal, saying “the missiles will speak for themselves.” The decision is seen as a way for the West to signal to Russia that it cannot win the war militarily.
