**Russia Plans to Build Drone Factory in Belarus**
Russia wants to build a factory in neighboring Belarus to make drones. This was announced by Russian Deputy Chief of Staff Maxim Oreshkin on March 6.
Oreshkin said that having its own drone production facilities would be good for both the economy and national security of Belarus. He met with Belarusian dictator Alexander Lukashenko during a drone exhibition in Minsk, the capital of Belarus.
Lukashenko agreed to let Russia build the factory. The plant is expected to produce up to 100,000 drones per year, but it’s not clear what kind of drones they will be or if they’ll be used for military purposes.
**Belarus and Russia: Close Allies**
Russia and Belarus are close friends. They often work together on economic and security issues. In fact, Russia launched part of its invasion of Ukraine from Belarusian territory in 2022.
However, the United States and European countries have imposed sanctions on Belarus because of its support for Russia’s actions in Ukraine.
**Drone Use in Ukraine**
Russia has been using drones to attack Ukraine since last year. They’ve used around 100-200 kamikaze drones per day, but they plan to increase this number to 500 soon. This is according to Vadym Skibitskyi, the deputy head of Ukraine’s military intelligence agency.
