Russia Attacks Zaporizhzhia, Killing 2 People and Injuring 8
On the evening of March 21, Russia attacked the city of Zaporizhzhia. The attack killed two people, including a 20-year-old woman, and injured at least eight others.
The strike also damaged several apartment buildings in the city. Many high-rises and homes caught fire after the attack. Rescue operations are ongoing as of 11:30 p.m. local time.
This is not the first time Zaporizhzhia has been attacked by Russia. The city has been frequently targeted since Russia’s full-scale invasion in 2022. Before the war, Zaporizhzhia was home to around 710,000 people.
The attack on Zaporizhzhia comes as Ukraine and the US are discussing ways to end the war. President Volodymyr Zelensky said that releasing prisoners is one of the first steps towards a ceasefire. He also met with his Czech counterpart Petr Pavel in Kyiv on March 21 to discuss the war and European efforts to provide security guarantees for Ukraine.
US President Donald Trump has also weighed in on the situation, saying that a full ceasefire will come soon, followed by a contract to divide up lands. However, it’s unclear what format this proposal will take.
In other news, a car with two Russian officers exploded in the Russian-occupied town of Skadovsk in Kherson Oblast on March 20. Ukrainian military intelligence reported this incident on March 21.
Ukrainian citizens residing in Russia and occupied Ukrainian territories have been ordered to leave by September 10 or “regulate their legal status” under a decree from President Vladimir Putin.
The situation remains tense, with Ukraine’s Air Force intercepting 114 of 214 Russian drones launched overnight. The shadow fleet, which refers to aging oil tankers used by Russia to transport oil above the $60 per barrel price cap, continues to be a concern.
