**Russia Launches Drone Attack on Kyiv Oblast**
On January 16, Russia launched a drone attack on the Kyiv Oblast region of Ukraine. The attack caused a fire and injured a child.
According to Mykola Kalashnyk, acting head of the regional military administration, air defense units intercepted targets over an unnamed town in Kyiv Oblast. However, some drones managed to get through and fell to the ground, causing damage.
**Injured Child Receives Medical Attention**
A 12-year-old boy was injured by falling debris from a downed drone. He has been hospitalized and is receiving medical attention. No other casualties were reported.
**Fire Contained**
The falling debris also caused a fire in a cafe and attached boiler room. The fire, which covered an area of around 200 square meters, has now been contained. A nearby building suffered broken windows from the blast.
**Russian Drone Attacks on the Rise**
This is not the first time Russian drones have targeted Kyiv Oblast and the city of Kyiv. There was a surge in drone strikes against residential areas and critical energy infrastructure in late fall 2024. As Moscow intensifies its attacks, it’s also planning to increase domestic drone production.
