Russian Drone Hits IAEA Vehicle Near Nuclear Plant
A Russian drone attacked and severely damaged an International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) service vehicle on its way to the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant. The incident happened on December 10.
The service vehicle was going to the nuclear plant for a personnel rotation. President Volodymyr Zelensky reported the attack and said it shows how Russia views international law, institutions, and security.
IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi called the attack “unacceptable” and stressed the importance of preventing nuclear accidents during the conflict. The Zaporizhzhia plant has been at risk due to recent Russian shelling attacks that have disrupted its power lines multiple times since November.
The Plant is currently connected to the Ukrainian power grid by only one transmission line, making it vulnerable to outages. Russia has occupied the Zaporizhzhia plant, the largest nuclear station in Europe, since March 2022.
Ukraine Receives $20 Billion Loan Assistance
The U.S. Treasury Department announced on December 10 that it will provide $20 billion in loan assistance to Ukraine. This is part of a broader $50 billion initiative supported by G7 countries.
Russia’s Military Activity Continues
Russian forces occupied 2 square kilometers (0,8 square miles) in Sumy and advanced in the Kursk Oblast as of December 10. The U.S. Indo-Pacific Command commander said Russia may have transferred fighter jets to North Korea in exchange for North Korean soldiers.
