Russian forces have entered the eastern part of Toretsk in Donetsk Oblast, Ukraine, as fierce street battles continue to rage, according to a Ukrainian military official. The situation in the city remains unstable as of late 7 October, with intense fighting reported for control of individual buildings.
For months, the Russian army has continued to concentrate its main efforts on Donetsk Oblast, with primary offensives targeting Pokrovsk, Kurakhove, and Toretsk. Russian forces have also been active in the Vuhledar, Lyman, and Kharkiv Oblast’s Kupiansk. Based on the scale and intensity of these operations, Russia appears to be attempting to capture the remaining parts of Donetsk Oblast.
NV reports that Anastasiia Bobovnikova, spokesperson for the Luhansk Operational Tactical Group, told on Ukrainian TV that the most intense fighting is currently taking place in the Toretsk direction.
“Battles are being fought literally for every building entrance,” Bobovnikova stated.

The spokesperson explained that it is difficult to assess which parts of the city are under enemy control due to the fluid nature of the combat, with Ukrainian defense forces continuously launching counterattacks to regain lost positions.
“The Russians have entered the eastern outskirts of the city and have advanced somewhat along Central Street, in the direction of the Central mine,” Bobovnikova reported. She emphasized the constantly changing nature of the situation, saying, “We recapture their firing points, then they destroy some of ours. But we constantly restore our positions and try to regain what the occupiers have captured, not allowing them to advance.”
