Today, there have been significant updates from the Kursk direction. Ukrainian forces have successfully increased pressure in the Kursk Oblast, causing the Russians to redirect their critical reserves to the north and abandon their offensive in Pokrovsk. This has proven to be a strategic success for the Ukrainian Kursk offensive.
In the Koronevo area, Ukrainian forces greatly outnumbered the Russian defenders, putting the town at risk of being encircled. The Russians anticipated attacks from the south and north, where the Ukrainians held strong positions. As a result, the Russian command has been gradually redeploying troops to strengthen their defenses in Kursk, including forces originally intended for the Pokrovsk offensive.
The worsening situation in Koronevo and the threat of encirclement led to further redeployment of Russian forces from other parts of the frontline, including Chasiv Yar. Eventually, they were forced to also redeploy troops from Pokrovsk, including elements from the 15th Motorized Rifle Brigade and the 1st Sloviansk Brigade.
In response to the Ukrainian pressure, the Russians launched counterattacks around Koronevo, with the goal of removing the pressure from the southern flank. The first wave of these counterattacks included 8 armored vehicles and at least 70 soldiers. Geolocated footage shows the assault group advancing on the road from Koronevo to Snagost, facing fierce resistance from Ukrainian fighters. The Russian BMPs provided cover for the infantry as they dismounted.
