Anastasia Bobovnikova, spokesperson for the Joint Forces Operation, reported that Russian forces have intensified their assaults against Chasiv Yar in order to penetrate the Ukrainian troops‘ defenses, who are preparing themselves for the ongoing combat in the area.
Anastasia Bobovnikova is the spokesperson of the “Luhansk Operational Tactics Group” and she told UkrInform that Russian invaders were trying to break through the defenses of Ukrainian troops near Bakhmut District, in Donetsk Oblast.
The capture of Chasiv Yar would allow the Russian military to launch an offensive against other cities in the region–Kostiantynivka, Druzhkivka, Kramatorsk, and Sloviansk.
In April 2024 the Ukrainian Army Spokesperson Lieutenant Col. Nazar Voloshyn stated that losing the city would severely complicate the situation for Ukrainian Forces, as all logistic routes in the region would be in enemy hands.
In the Chasiv-Yar area, there is intense fighting. The enemy is trying our defense. When they can’t attack us directly because they also suffer significant losses on the Kramatorsk route, they try small attacks to find weak spots in our defense. They aim at random places, hoping to achieve their goal,” said Bobovnikova.
The Ukrainian spokesperson stated that the Ukrainian military tactic is to cut-off Russian logistics routes, leaving the occupiers with no reinforcements.
“All means are necessary to destroy the enemy.” We are grateful to the partners who supply us with artillery, shells and aircraft, as well as armored combat vehicle. We use these weapons as efficiently as possible on the field. Bobovnikova added that drones are also used actively.
Ruslan Muzychuk, the spokesperson for the Ukrainian National Guard, said earlier that Russian troops were launching numerous assaults against Chasiv Yar (Donetsk Oblast) as they attempted to cross the Kanal Micro-District of the city.
Ukrainian authorities had previously arrested a 22 year old soldier on suspicion of treason against the state for allegedly aiding Russian troops during the battle for Chasiv Yar, in Donetsk oblast.
Investigators claim that the suspect, who was a drone operator for a combat brigade of Ukraine’s Armed Forces defending the Kramatorsk Direction, was recruited remotely by an officer of Russia’s Federal Security Service (FSS) in 2023. The SBU claims the soldier leaked positions of his UAV, which was responsible to coordinate fire against Russian forces attacking Chasiv Yar.
