**Russian National Sentenced to Life Imprisonment for Killing Two Ukrainian Soldiers**
A 58-year-old Russian national has been sentenced to life imprisonment by a Munich court for murdering two Ukrainian soldiers in Germany last year. The victims, aged 36 and 23, were being treated for war injuries in Murnau, Bavaria when they were killed.
The defendant admitted to the killings, which happened after an argument about the war broke out at a bar between him and the two soldiers. He claimed that he felt “violated in his national pride” due to the argument.
This is not the first incident of crimes against Ukrainian citizens abroad since the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion in 2022. In February 2024, two Ukrainian basketball players were killed in Germany after being attacked with knives. A 15-year-old Ukrainian boy also survived a severe head injury after his attacker made xenophobic remarks.
**Thousands Protest Against Slovak Government**
In other news, thousands of protesters gathered in more than 40 cities across Slovakia on March 7 to target the government of Prime Minister Robert Fico. The protests were peaceful, but they highlighted growing public dissatisfaction with the government’s policies.
**Poland Announces Large-Scale Military Training**
Meanwhile, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk announced plans for large-scale military training for all adult men to strengthen the country‘s reserve forces. This move is seen as a response to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and the potential threat it poses to Eastern Europe.
**Ukraine Committed to Peaceful Resolution**
In a statement on March 7, Ukrainian President Zelensky emphasized his commitment to finding a peaceful resolution to the conflict with Russia. He called for international support in this effort, saying that “peace as soon as possible” and “security as reliable as possible” are Ukraine’s top priorities.
