**Russian Railways Hit by Cyberattack**
The Russian railways company was attacked on April 1. The attack made the website and app unusable.
**What Happened**
A “massive DDoS (distributed denial-of-service) attack” was used, said the company. This means that many computers were used to send a lot of information to the Russian Railways website at the same time. It’s like a big traffic jam on the internet. The company is trying to fix the problem.
**Other Attacks**
This is not the first cyberattack against railways in Russia and Ukraine. On March 23, Ukrainian Railways was hit by a similar attack. This made their website and app unusable for days. The Ukrainian government said that the tactics used were similar to those of Russian intelligence services.
**Website Down**
Many people tried to use the Russian Railways website on April 1, but it didn’t work. A website called Downdetector.su recorded many complaints about the website being down at 11:45 a.m. local time. As of now, the website is still not working.
**No Tickets**
Even though the website and app are not working, ticket offices at train stations are open as usual. This means that people can still buy tickets in person.
