**Russian Attack Kills Civilian in Zaporizhzhia Oblast**
A Russian attack on the town of Stepnohirsk in Zaporizhzhia Oblast killed a civilian. Governor Ivan Fedorov reported the incident on January 2.
The victim’s body was found under the rubble of a five-story building after a search and rescue operation. The village of Stepnohirsk was hit by Russian glide bombs 11 times during the attack.
**Russia Continues Attacks on Ukraine**
Russia has not slowed down its attacks on Ukraine over the holiday period. On January 1, Russia attacked Kyiv with drones, killing two scientists and injuring six others, including two pregnant women. The National Bank of Ukraine was also damaged in the attack.
This is not the first large-scale attack by Russia on Ukraine. On December 25, Russia fired 78 missiles and 106 drones against multiple cities, causing significant damage and casualties.
**Russia’s Military Losses**
Russia has suffered significant military losses in recent days. According to the Navy, Russian forces lost 35,670 destroyed FPV drones and 1,140 strike drones. Ukrainian units also eliminated 192 operational and tactical drones and another 164 Shahed-136/131 drones.
**Ukraine Responds to Russia’s Actions**
President Volodymyr Zelensky condemned Russia’s actions and said that Ukraine stands with the American people against violence. He also praised Poland for its efforts to ensure Europe’s security.
The Ukrainian government has also taken steps to strengthen its energy security, seeking alternative sources of electricity after Russian Gazprom halted gas supplies to Moldova.
**Ukraine’s Military Advances**
Ukraine’s Commander-in-Chief Oleksandr Syrskyi reported that the Russian army has lost over 38,000 troops and more than 1,000 pieces of equipment since Ukraine’s incursion into Russia’s Kursk Oblast.
