Military analysts warn that the control of Toretsk could allow further advances in eastern Ukraine.
According to UkrInform, Anastasiia Bobbyvnikova, a spokesperson for the “Luhansk”, operational-tactical unit, Russian forces have taken control of two streets in Toretsk, Donetsk Oblast.
Ivan Tymochko of the Council of Reservists of the Ground Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine told RBC-Ukraine that the Russians would be able to advance towards Pokrovsk, or in the Avdiivka directions, towards Kramatorsk, and Sloviansk. They would also be able to reinforce troops in the Chasiv Yar region.
He said that the offensive was vital for the Russians because Niu York and Toretsk were mining towns with well developed industries where coal was extracted.
“The situation is still challenging.” Bobovnikova said that the enemy had made some progress and taken positions on two adjacent streets in Toretsk. They have reached Tsentralna Street.
According to the spokesperson the Russian military tries to breach Ukrainian defences in the Chasiv Yar region. Russian troops continue to reinforce the front line despite fewer assaults.
