Russian troops are trying to surround the city of Pokrovsk in Ukraine’s Donetsk region. This is according to Viktor Trehubov, a spokesperson for the Ukrainian military group “Khortytsia”.
Trehubov said that Russian forces lack the resources to attack the city directly. They have already used up their supplies and don’t want to waste more. He compared it to trying to eat a big cake: if you can take small bites of it first, you’ll be able to enjoy it more.
The Russians are now focusing on taking control of smaller villages around Pokrovsk, hoping to cut off the city’s supply lines and roads. Trehubov refused to give details about how many Russian troops are involved in this effort, but said that the pressure on Ukrainian forces has not changed much.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky recently said that the situation on the frontlines is most challenging in eastern Ukraine, where Russian troops and equipment are concentrated. He also mentioned that Ukrainian brigades are only 60-70% equipped with weapons due to delays in receiving aid from their partners.
According to observers, Russian forces have been cutting off roads to the east and west of Pokrovsk, trying to encircle the city. They have also been capturing new territories to the south, southeast, and east of Pokrovsk in recent days.
