According to Serhii Dobriak, the head of Pokrovsk’s military administration, the Russian forces are currently less than 7 kilometers (4 miles) away from the outskirts of the town of Pokrovsk in Donetsk Oblast as of October 4th. This area has been a major battleground for several months and is a key target in Russia’s offensive in the region. Pokrovsk is a crucial logistical hub for Ukrainian forces.
Dobriak also reported that Russia had launched a targeted attack on civilian infrastructure in Pokrovsk the day before, using guided aerial bombs that caused injuries to people. He stated that almost 80% of critical infrastructure has been damaged or destroyed, leaving the town without electricity, water, and gas.
Governor Vadym Filashkin of Donetsk Oblast announced on October 3rd that due to continued Russian attacks, the northern part of the region will be without water supply for an indefinite period. This will affect around 13,000 residents, including 94 children. Currently, the evacuation of civilians from Pokrovsk is ongoing, with around 60,000 people having already left the town since January 2022. The train station in Pokrovsk has been closed for evacuations, with the nearest station now located in Pavlohrad, a city 100 kilometers (62 miles) west of Pokrovsk.
