Moscow’s forces are moving in three directions to take Kurakhove, Donetsk Oblast: from the south, from Selydove captured, from the north, from Bohoiavlenka and from the east.
Russian forces, despite heavy losses, are trying to pincer around Kurakhove in the southwest Donetsk Oblast.
Kurakhove is home to one the largest thermal power plants in Ukraine, which once supplied electricity to a large part of Donetsk Oblast. It is a vital defensive hub that protects Ukrainian positions west of Donetsk. Its capture could give Russian forces control of key supply routes, and threaten Ukrainian defenses in the southwest Donetsk oblast.
