Rutte, NATO chief, says “I cannot support Zelenskyy Victory plan in its entirety”

This lukewarm reaction comes as Zelenskyy is preparing to visit on Friday to promote his plan that was presented to Ukraine’s Parliament on Wednesday. “I can’t support the entire plan — that would have been a bit difficult, because there are many things, of course, I need to better understand,” Rutte stated. The plan aims at ending the war by securing an invitation to join NATO and continuing arms shipments in order to force Russia into negotiations. Zelenskyy said that a NATO membership invitation could be “truly essential” for peace. Rutte acknowledged NATO support for Kyiv, but expressed reservations. “We need to work with Ukrainians, to understand what’s behind it, and to see what we can do,” he said.However he announced that the would reach their EUR40 billion target for for Ukraine.NATO had long promised Ukraine eventual NATO membership but has not extended a formal invite. This hesitation is due to the fear of being drawn into a nuclear-armed conflict with Russia.
