Mark Rutte, NATO chief, has called on allies and NATO to increase their arms supplies to Ukraine in the face of what could be the worst winter for the country since the Russian invasion.
NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte warned this winter could be the toughest for Ukraine since Russia invaded in 2022 and called on allies to increase their arms supplies.
Rutte said, during a recent press conference, that NATO has done and will continue to do more for Ukraine.
Russia continues to attack Ukraine’s vital energy infrastructure. The Ministry of Energy has previously stated that the damage caused by Russia’s massive attacks, especially one of the largest attacks against the energy sector, on 26 August, continue to complicate the power system’s operation.
According to the ministry’s statement, Russia has launched more than a thousand attacks on Ukrainian energy infrastructure since October 2022. These attacks have resulted in the loss of 9 GW generating capacity this year alone.
The UN mission reported that Russian attacks on Ukraine’s infrastructure for energy have caused significant damage, and could have even more devastating effects as winter approaches.
The Russian energy ministry has reported that Russian forces continue to shell energy infrastructure every day, which is further aggravating the situation.
Mark Rutte, the long-time Dutch prime minister, officially assumed his role as NATO Secretary General on October 1. NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, during his first visit to Kyiv in October, confirmed that Ukraine was his top priority.
