The budget airline Ryanair has spoken out against the concession of Belgrade Nikola Tesla Airport. The company’s Chief Commercial Officer, Jason McGuinness, called it a “big mistake” and said that the concessionaire, VINCI, is only interested in making a profit.
**Ryanair Won’t Fly to Belgrade**
At a press conference in Sarajevo on Thursday, McGuinness said: “Belgrade Airport is truly underdeveloped, but the French profiteers don’t care about that. Ryanair will not fly to Belgrade in the future.”
He also warned that foreign concessionaires like VINCI only care about making money and don’t prioritize developing the airport or creating new jobs.
**Ryanair Already Serves Serbian Market**
Despite this, Ryanair already serves the Serbian market through its flights to Niš. The airline says it continues to monitor the market and may consider expanding there if it can make a profit.
**VINCI’s 25-Year Concession**
Belgrade Airport has been under concession to VINCI since 2018, with the concession extended by a year and a half due to the coronavirus pandemic. Ryanair is one of VINCI’s largest airline partners across its portfolio of airports.
