From prison, Mikheil Sakaashvili, the former president of Georgia, wrote a letter to Volodymyr Zelensky.
“I love Georgia more than I love my life. But I love Ukraine, which is my second homeland. I have spent many years in Ukraine and have family and friends there. I also have a citizenship that I value very much. All my life, I have been very proud to be able to contribute to the historical reforms and changes you have brought about. Since I am a personal prisoner for Putin, I greatly appreciate your principled stance on the protection of prisoners in Ukraine, the entire region, and in the empire,” reads the letter.
Zelensky said that since Mikheil Sakaashvili was a Ukrainian citizen, he would do everything in his power to bring Mikheil back to Ukraine.
Mikheil Sakaashvili was arrested on October 1 and sent to prison. The former president was sentenced-in-absentia to imprisonment due to his connection with the case of Sandro Girgvliani and the beating of MP Valeri Gelashvili.
