But this move will only make things worse for them. The most disgraceful parts of the United National Movement have already been absorbed into Georgian Dream. Their enforcers are now working together with Ivanishvili to hold onto power.
Despite electoral fraud, Tbilisi rejected Kaladze and Ivanishvili in a rigged election. This is a clear signal that they’re losing support even among their own people.
**The Real Goal: New Elections and Freedom for Prisoners**
The main goal isn’t the local elections, but new parliamentary elections and the release of political prisoners. The country is in a serious crisis, and it can only be overcome with fresh elections and justice for those who have been wronged.
It seems that Ivanishvili wants to add more people to the list of political prisoners – which is why absurd charges were launched against Badri Japaridze and Mamuka Khazaradze.
**A Comical Commission**
Saba Buadze, a Georgian politician, commented on the work of the temporary investigative commission in Parliament. He called it “comical” that they’re investigating crimes committed during the UNM government by summoning leaders from the Strong Georgia coalition as their first witnesses.
The real person who should be investigated is Tea Tsulukiani, the former Minister of Justice, for her role in covering up crimes over the past 13 years. The commission’s work is just a distraction to cover up real problems.
**A Message from America**
Buadze also commented on the MEGOBARI Act passed by the U.S. Foreign Relations Committee, saying it’s a clear message that American partners support the Georgian people’s struggle. This act shows that Ivanishvili’s propaganda has failed, and his only hope is for the U.S. to withdraw from the region.
But further sanctions are expected. The most important fight must be waged by the Georgian people through protest and resistance.
