**US Must Stand Up to Russia in Georgia**
Georgia’s fifth President, Salome Zurabishvili, says the United States must take a strong stand against Russia in her country. In an interview, she stated that allowing Russia to dictate policies and manipulate elections in Georgia would be a humiliation for the US.
Zurabishvili said that two things are necessary for success: the people of Georgia must do their part by fighting peacefully and responsibly, and the international community, especially the US, must understand what is at stake. She emphasized that this is not just about democracy, but also about maintaining a balance of power with Russia.
**Russia’s Failure in Ukraine**
Zurabishvili noted that Russia has suffered significant setbacks in Ukraine, including failing to secure victory within three days and struggling to generate anti–war sentiment among European public opinion. If Russia were able to achieve victory in Georgia without paying any price, it would give them a boost of influence and allow them to manipulate elections in other countries.
**A Test of US Strength**
Zurabishvili concluded that this is fundamentally a question of American strength. She said that the US cannot afford to be humiliated by Russia in Georgia, as this would signify weakness rather than strength. She expressed hope that statements from President Trump and the new Secretary of State will provide strong support for Georgia’s democracy and independence.
