Georgian President Salome Zurabishvili spoke in the Italian Senate. She was asked if she planned to leave her post as president.
Zurabishvili said that being president doesn’t mean having all the power in Georgia. She is a symbol of connection between the people and the government.
The President believes that retreating from her position would be like betraying those who are protesting on the streets. These protests need someone to represent them, she stated.
According to Zurabishvili, there are many different groups and parties emerging from these street protests. She thinks that having one clear leader, or “one phone number” to talk to, is important for stability.
The President also said that having a stable figure like her helps foreign partners understand who they can work with in Georgia.
