Georgian President’s View on Unrest
The Georgian president, Salome Zurabishvili, thinks that the current situation is calm and peaceful. She believes that there are no signs of an escalation into a revolution.
People have been protesting in the streets, demanding two things: to return to a European path and hold new elections. The protesters have been peaceful until they were violently cracked down on by authorities. This led to many people being beaten.
The protests continue, but also follow the law. Lawyers are helping those who were hurt during the crackdown.
President Zurabishvili thinks that the country should stay within its constitutional framework. She says that those in power now do not respect the constitution or the will of the people.
