**Georgia’s President Calls for Tougher Sanctions**
The president of Georgia, Salome Zurabishvili, spoke out about the need for stronger sanctions. She said that if even a few police officers who gave false statements were punished, it would show that they can’t just do whatever they want.
Zurabishvili made these comments at a panel discussion in Munich, Germany. She emphasized that sanctions are not just important for those in power, but also for ordinary people. In Georgia, the government has faced pressure from the public to take action against corrupt officials and police officers who break the rules.
The president noted that European sanctions on diplomatic passports are limited because many people have second passports. However, she said that even if it’s not a collective effort by all European countries, individual governments and citizens can make a difference. Sanctioning police officers who give false statements would be an important step in holding them accountable.
Zurabishvili strongly supported the idea of sanctions, saying that it’s what people are demanding today.
