The Government‘s New Laws: A Sign of Weakness, Not Strength?
The government has recently passed new laws that are being seen as repressive. However, the leader of the opposition, Salome Zurabishvili, says this is not a sign of strength for the government.
In fact, Salome believes that these laws are a clear attempt by the government to suppress civil society and non–governmental organizations (NGOs). She thinks that the government’s actions will only lead to more people speaking out against them.
“We should in no way consider that just because the government is adopting new repressive laws, it means that it is somehow getting stronger,” Salome said. “No, on the contrary, the protest is growing because more people are realizing what this government is doing and where it is heading.”
The opposition is unified in its stance against these laws and plans to continue resisting them. They believe that their message of peaceful change is resonating with more and more people.
“We will achieve the elections, as well as the release of political prisoners,” Salome said. “We do not choose other paths that may exist in someone’s mind.”
