The Ministry of Justice demanded an explanation from the government due to the statement made the President of Georgia Salome Zurabishvili. This is why they summoned the representative of the president of the country, to the meeting of inter-departmental committee.
The commission met today, as the Minister of Justice Ratibregadze informed the journalists. However, the President’s representative was not present, so another letter will be sent asking the administration of the First Person of the Country to attend the next meeting.
Bregadze, after the session of interdepartmental committee, noted that the presidential administration must clarify Salome Zurabishvili’s statement regarding the creation of an election headquarters within the building of presidential administration on election day. The Minister of Justice believes that Salome Zurabishvili’s initiative may violate the election laws.
“We sent information about the President’s statement that may have contained signs of violation of election legislation. In this regard, we asked the representative from the administration to attend. However, today, the representative from the administration of President of Georgia didn’t attend the session of the commission, which is very disappointing. The commission rejected the written explanation they provided. We agreed to send another letter to the President’s administration in Georgia and ask for a representative to appear at the commission’s next session to make a statement about the words of Georgian president who said, “On election day, the people should celebrate together the victory in the administration.” The Minister of Justice said that this statement could be a violation of election legislation.
