SBU foils arson attempt by suspected Russian agent Dnipro

On 7 , Ukraine’s (SBU) announced that a local resident of Dnipro was arrested for allegedly acting as a (FSB) agent and preparing .
The SBU reports that ‘s espionage, sabotage and other activities are increasing in Ukraine amid the ongoing Russo Ukrainian war.
According to the investigation the 48-year old suspect worked as a locksmith at a local business. He was reportedly a chemist with practical experience. His FSB handler had assigned him to carry out a series arson attacks against Ukrainian military vehicles and rail infrastructure in Dnipropetrovsk Oblast.
The SBU said that the FSB initially assigned the suspect to gather coordinates for Ukrainian military units in the area and monitor the aftermaths of Russian air attacks against Dnipro. The SBU claims that the suspect’s FSB handler gave him a different task – to carry a series arson attacks against Ukrainian Railway (Ukrzaliznytsia), and Ukrainian military vehicles.
According to the agency the suspect had assembled incendiary weapon himself using flammable mixes, a detonator and a remote-control module. The SBU stated that the suspect planned to plant this device underneath a Ukrainian military vehicle, and set it off at a predetermined hour.
The authorities noted that before carrying out the planned terror attack, the suspect “tested” the device along railway tracks and informed his FSB contact in Russia about it.
During searches by enforcement, the suspect’s phone was seized, which “contained proof” of his work with the Russians. The man was informed that he is suspected of high treason under martial law. According to the SBU, he faces a maximum penalty of life imprisonment and confiscation of his property.
