German Chancellor Olaf Scholz Talks to Russian President Putin Again
German Chancellor Olaf Scholz spoke with Russian President Vladimir Putin for the first time in two years. Scholz said that talking to Putin is never a pleasant conversation.
After his phone call on November 15, Scholz said it was necessary to speak with Putin to show that Western countries still support Ukraine. He claimed that some people think a simple phone call could bring peace quickly, but this is not true.
Scholz met with Putin to make sure there were no misunderstandings about the West‘s support for Ukraine. However, he found out that Putin’s views on the war had not changed much. Scholz said this was bad news.
The Ukrainian President, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, called the conversation a “Pandora’s box.” The Canadian Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau, supported Scholz’s decision to talk with Putin.
