Germany’s Chancellor Olaf Scholz made a statement before going to the G20 summit in Brazil. He said Germany will still support Ukraine, even though Russia is at war with them.
Scholz spoke about his recent phone call with Russian President Vladimir Putin. This was the first time they talked since the full-scale invasion of Ukraine started nearly two years ago.
The G20 summit in Brazil will talk about several important issues, including the war between Russia and Ukraine. Scholz said that while Germany supports Ukraine, they are not going to give them certain types of missiles that could reach Russian military targets. He is worried that giving these missiles could make the war worse and get Germany involved.
Scholz wrote on a social media platform that Ukraine can count on many friends around the world, including Germany. He also said it’s an illusion for Putin to think that Germany’s support for Ukraine will go away.
