**German Chancellor Visits Ukraine**
German Chancellor Olaf Scholz arrived in Kyiv on December 2. He met with President Volodymyr Zelensky to show support for Ukraine during the conflict with Russia.
This was Scholz’s first visit to Ukraine’s capital in two and a half years. His trip comes after he spoke with Russian President Vladimir Putin, which some people criticized as being too friendly.
In June 2022, Scholz visited Kyiv alongside French and Italian leaders. Germany has become one of the largest donors of military aid to Ukraine, but some have criticized Scholz’s cautious approach on certain issues.
**Recent Developments**
A Russian drone attack in Ternopil caused a fire in a residential building and hurt people on December 2. Russia also launched a missile attack that day, causing casualties.
Leonid Popov was charged with espionage by the Russian government despite having schizophrenia. Ukraine’s new eSuccess program received over 2 million applications on its first day of operation.
**International Support**
The European Union has delivered 1 million artillery shells to Ukraine, fulfilling a pledge made earlier this year. The United States is not considering returning nuclear weapons to Ukraine that were previously given up under an agreement in Budapest.

A Russian attack on a car in Dnipropetrovsk Oblast injured 15 people. Ukrainian forces have also been causing significant losses for Russia.
