**Germany May Give Long-Range Missiles to Ukraine**
Friedrich Merz, the leader of Germany’s Christian Democratic Union (CDU), said that his party might give long-range missiles to Ukraine. He met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in Kyiv.
Merz said there is a big discussion going on in Germany about what kind of military help Ukraine should get. However, he said that most people agree that they want to help end the war and have a fair peace.
He said that his party wants to give Ukraine the ability to attack only military targets, not civilians or their infrastructure. He also mentioned this idea a few weeks ago in Germany’s parliament.
This statement is different from what German Chancellor Olaf Scholz has been saying for a long time. Scholz thinks that giving long-range missiles to Ukraine would make Germany directly involved in the war between Russia and Ukraine.
Germany will have new elections on February 23, 2025. The party led by Merz is expected to win around 31-33% of the votes.
The Deputy Head of the Ukrainian President‘s Office said that Ukraine values its partnership with Germany, which provides financial, military, and humanitarian aid.
