On October 24, three days before Georgia’s election, the Investigative Service of Georgia’s Ministry of Finance conducted searches of multiple organizations. They targeted the Atlantic Council, and its employees, in particular. These sudden inspections have raised questions about the intentions of the state.
Giorgi Noniashvili is a politician, co-founder of Federalist Party and reported that officials raided his house, stealing his electronic devices, his wife and his child. His wife, Sopo, is also an employee of the Atlantic Council. She has openly questioned the motives of Ministry, claiming that it was politically motivated.
Eto Buziashvili is another employee of Atlantic Council who recalls being tricked by officials posing as gas company representatives, before conducting a 2-hour-long search.
She stated, “They took my laptop and all my other technical items.”
