Serbia’s Prime Minister Resigns, Promises Action Against Corruption
The Serbian Prime Minister, Milos Vucevic, has resigned. He said that the government will take strong action against corruption. However, he also hopes that investigators will look into events from before his party came to power.
In an interview on TV Pink, Mr. Vucevic was asked if the government would prosecute former ministers who are mentioned in media reports. He said that he does not have information about these individuals being under investigation. But he added that this does not mean they are not being investigated.
The Prime Minister was referring to two former high-ranking ministers from his party: Nebojsa Stefanovic and Zorana Mihajlovic. Mr. Stefanovic was once a close associate of President Aleksandar Vucic, but had a public conflict with him. He left the public eye after being accused of plotting against the president.
Ms. Mihajlovic held several ministerial positions before leaving Mr. Vucevic’s party. The Prime Minister’s comments suggest that his government is taking steps to address corruption and hold officials accountable.
