**Serbia’s Ambassador Walks Out of Event**
A high-profile event in Croatia was disrupted when Serbia’s Ambassador Jelena Milic walked out. The ceremony was organized by the Serb National Council, a political body representing Serbian minority in Croatia.
Milic was upset because one of the award recipients, writer Jasminka Petrovic, praised “young people in Serbia who have been teaching us how to fly and shine”. This phrase is seen as support for student protests that are currently happening in Serbia. The protesters want justice for past injustices.
The ambassador felt that the leaders of the Serb National Council did not take a strong enough stance against the student protests. She said they should not have allowed someone who supports the blockades to receive an award.
Milic has been involved in politics before. As leader of a non-governmental organization, she was critical of the current Serbian regime. In the past, she also walked out of a TV show where the then-Prime Minister Aleksandar Vucic was being interviewed.
