Serbia Welcomes Trump’s Presidency
Serbia’s Foreign Minister, Marko Djuric, said that Donald Trump becoming the US president is good news for Serbia and the region. This comes after Trump was sworn in as president on Monday.
Djuric believes that Trump knows the region well and does not view Serbia through a negative lens. He also acknowledged that Serbia is not a top priority for America’s foreign policy.
Serbia Wants to Talk
The Foreign Minister said that Serbia wants to have good direct communication with the US administration. He hopes to see visitors from the US come to Belgrade, including President Trump and Secretary of State Marco Rubio.
A Visit Planned
Djuric also mentioned that a Serbian official is scheduled to visit Washington in February. However, he did not say who this person is.
Congratulating Rubio
The Foreign Minister congratulated Marco Rubio on his appointment as US Secretary of State. He said that he will be sending a letter to Rubio to express Serbia’s desire for better cooperation with the US and to invite Trump and Rubio to visit Belgrade.
