Serbia’s Prime Minister Steps Down
Serbian Prime Minister Milos Vucevic is resigning from his position. This decision comes after a recent tragedy in the city of Novi Sad, where 15 people were killed when a concrete awning collapsed.
The collapse happened at the recently rebuilt Novi Sad Railway Station. The government and former mayor of Novi Sad have been criticized for their role in this disaster. Vucevic said that he was resigning because the tragedy overshadowed his government’s work.
Vucevic also announced that Novi Sad Mayor Milan Djuric would be stepping down, as demanded by protesters. They felt that both leaders were responsible for what happened and should take responsibility. The resignation of these two officials is seen as a way to ease tensions in Serbia.
The decision was made after a conversation with President Aleksandar Vucic. He accepted the resignation of Djuric and emphasized the need for stability and preventing further divisions in society. The ruling Serbian Progressive Party must also show responsibility to prevent more protests, according to Vucevic.
