Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov spoke with Russian media about the Georgian government’s desire for independence.
Lavrov said that Western countries are trying to make Georgia choose between them and Russia. He thinks this is a trap, meant to keep Georgia from making its own decisions. The minister believes that the Georgian government wants to have a policy that serves the country‘s interests, not those of the West.
According to Lavrov, the West wants to destabilize Georgia and cause economic problems for the country. This would also lead to worse relations with Russia.
When asked when the West would stop interfering in countries on Russia’s borders, Lavrov replied that he should ask Western politicians this question.
He added that Western countries have a long history of interfering in other countries’ affairs.
