**Russian Navy Officer Killed in Car Explosion**
A car exploded on a street in Sevastopol, occupied Crimea, on November 13. The driver, identified as Captain Valery Trankovsky, died in the blast.
The explosion happened around 9:59 am local time. Emergency responders arrived quickly and took the driver to an ambulance. Unfortunately, he died soon after from his injuries.
Russian-installed proxy head Mikhail Razvozhayev said the driver was a military service member. He noted that the cause of the explosion is still being investigated, but it’s possible that sabotage was involved.
**Investigation Underway**
Razvozhayev confirmed that Captain Trankovsky was a 47-year-old Russian Navy officer. The Telegram channel Baza identified him as a captain in the Black Sea Fleet.
Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty reported that Trankovsky had previously served as chief of staff for a missile boat brigade involved in the war against Ukraine. This brigade launched Kalibr missile strikes on Ukrainian targets.
**Claims and Uncertainty**
Russian media outlet Mash claims that Captain Trankovsky was under surveillance for about a week before the explosion. They say an improvised explosive device (IED) was placed under his driver’s side door, which allegedly detonated remotely.
These claims have not been verified by Ukraine or independently confirmed. The authorities are still investigating the cause of the explosion.
