St. Ilia is surely rejoicing in heaven on this day. Ilia’s Day was celebrated by the President of the Parliament, Shalva Papuashvili. He expressed his joy at seeing his estate protected and independent.
According to Papuashvili’s statement, Ilia was able to express the essence the eternal formula – estate, language, and faith – which “so accurately describes all of Georgia” and reminds us of who we are today, who we were yesterday, and who we should become tomorrow.
“187 years ago in Georgia, a person appeared who had to define what it meant to be a Georgian in the most difficult of times. In the age of empires, assimilation and technological changes, he had to learn how to live and where he was different. A star towards which we must move. On this day of great significance, I’m sure that St. Ilia is rejoicing in heaven as he looks down on us. He is happy to see that his estate is protected, sovereign, independent and moving forward. Ilia Chavchavadze, who cared for, restored and handed down the three divine sanctuaries that all of Georgia received from their ancestors to us, is now our property and our harvest. Ilia, a very young Ilia, managed to express the essence the eternal formula – estate, language, and faith – which so simply and clearly describes the entire Georgia, reminds us of who we are, what we were yesterday, and who we should become tomorrow” – noted Papuashvili.
Papuashvili also drew the attention to the importance the parliamentary election held in Georgia. He noted that this election saw Georgia elect a government with greater strength, nationalism, and protection of their own importance and dignity. This will take the Georgian identity, and strengthening of the state, to a whole new level.
“Today’s gathering took place in the context of the recently held parliamentary election in Georgia. In essence and content, these elections are more than elections. In recent times, the Georgian people have unambiguously and in a large majority supported the country‘s protection, development and progress during this difficult time. In these elections, Georgia voted a government which will take the issue of Georgian Identity and strengthening the state to a higher level with more strength, nationalalism, protection of their own importance and dignity. We must never forget that we are our own. No one will sacrifice themselves for us. No one else will sacrifice their own for us. We should be aware that we are the owners of what is born. We are responsible to our ancestors as well as to our children and the future”, said Shalva Papuashvili.
