France Fines Leader of Far-Right Party
The leader of France’s far-right National Rally party, Marine Le Pen, has been punished by a French court. She was found guilty of taking money from the European Union without permission.
According to the court’s decision, Le Pen and eight other members of the European Parliament will have to pay a fine of 100,000 euros. They are also banned from holding public office for five years and can be sent to prison for four years.
Georgia‘s Speaker of Parliament, Shalva Papuashvili, has commented on the situation. He says that while he does not want to interfere in France’s internal affairs, France should also leave Georgia alone.
In a statement, Papuashvili said: “Of course, I do not want to interfere in the internal affairs of France, but neither should France interfere in the internal affairs of Georgia.”
