Shalva Papuashvili, the Speaker of Georgia‘s Parliament, has spoken out about Mzia Amaghlobeli’s recent hunger strike.
Mzia Amaghlobeli is a well-known journalist who founded two media outlets, “Batumelebi” and “Netgazeti“. She ended her hunger strike, which had sparked concern among many people.
Papuashvili was critical of some foreign ambassadors, including the European Union’s representative. He said that instead of helping Amaghlobeli end her hunger strike, they encouraged her to keep going.
The Speaker of Parliament was also unhappy with statements made by some ambassadors, saying they were “inciting” Amaghlobeli to continue damaging her health. This is similar to what happened during another hunger strike in the past, led by Mikheil Saakashvili.
Papuashvili believes that Mzia Amaghlobeli was used as a tool by some people who claimed to be her friends. He thinks that foreigners who made statements encouraging her to continue damaging her health do not have good intentions towards Georgia.
It’s good, according to Papuashvili, that Amaghlobeli has ended her hunger strike. She will now have time to reflect on the actions of those people who claimed to be her friends but were actually using her for their own purposes.
