Shalva Papuashvili, the chairperson of the parliament said that the opposition does not run any pre-election campaigns, nor do they appear in the region because they lack the people and authorities to go to the citizens to have a say.
He also noted that the “opposition campaign is conducted from overseas” and that not a single day goes by without “2-3 foreign announcements”, which “is an interference in election matters”.
“Many signs indicate that preparations for October 27 are in progress, and for a change of government that is unconstitutional. Call it a coup, or whatever you like. This is a repeat attempt for 2020. This means that there is a commission interdepartmental, coordinated by Justice Ministry, which determines whether a violation has occurred or not. This commission is not attended by the opposition or NGOs. If they have complaints, they can come and present them. International observers are present at the commission and OSCE/ODIHR, but they do not record that they were there. If they had real complaints, they would’ve brought it up and it would have been investigated. The public would have known. What are they doing? They hold a press conference, and make accusations left and right. Their low standard is based on hearsay, and they don’t have many accusations. We can see that they have no campaign. Ask anyone involved in election processes. The opposition is not visible at all in the regions, and they have no campaign. “Georgian Dream”, the only party to nominate delegates. The other parties did not do so because they didn’t have anyone, or any authorities, in the region to go to the people and say something. At best, their entire campaign consists of talking to people on TV. At worst, they are actually campaigning from overseas. We have noticed that every day, at least 2-3 statements are made from abroad. These statements are direct interferences in election matters. This has never happened before in Georgia. This is a sad situation, and it’s important that our citizens mobilized and armed themselves on October 26. Their abundance is the strongest weapon against any foreign interference,” stated the Speaker of Parliament with Imedi TV.
