Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili Speaks on New President’s Challenges
Shalva Papuashvili, the speaker of Georgia’s Parliament, spoke about the challenges facing Mikheil Kavelashvili, who will be inaugurated as the country‘s sixth president.
The inauguration is a historic event for several reasons. It marks the first time a president has been elected by an electoral college and sworn in at the Parliament’s historic chamber, where Georgia declared its independence and the first president took office.
But Papuashvili also emphasized that Kavelashvili will face a significant challenge: restoring the reputation of the presidency, which was damaged by his predecessor, Salome Zurabishvili. According to Papuashvili, Zurabishvili used her position for personal gain and divided the country instead of uniting it.
Papuashvili wished Kavelashvili success in his mission and acknowledged that it will not be easy. He will have to work hard to regain the trust of the people and restore the presidency’s significance, as defined in the Constitution.
