Sheffield councillors visit Ukraine show of solidarity.

Two Labour councillors from Sheffield, Mark Rusling and Matt Dwyer, will travel to western Ukraine later this month. They will meet local government officials, soldiers, and a team working with the Association of in the .

The visit comes after a tense meeting between President Volodymyr Zelensky and US leaders last week. Mr Rusling said many Ukrainians are worried that people in have lost interest in their country’ situation.

President Zelensky recently visited , where he met with Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer and the King. He also received support from European leaders at a summit.

Sheffield is twinned with two Ukrainian cities: Donetsk and . Mr Rusling said this makes it feel particularly important to show support for Ukraine. He added that the will carry the support of most people in Sheffield for the Ukrainian people.

The trip is being organised by people who fled Kyiv at the start of the war and now live in Britain. They want to raise awareness about the challenges faced by Ukrainians, not just in their own city but also across Britain.
