**Chinese Communist Party Funds Offices of Serbian Ruling Party**
The offices of the ruling Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) in Kraljevo were funded by the Communist Party of China. This goes against Serbian laws that say political parties cannot be financed by foreign states or entities.
Leaders from the Chinese Communist Party visited Kraljevo to open the new SNS offices. The city’s mayor confirmed at a press conference that the Chinese party had donated funds for the office.
The SNS has been critical of foreign influence in Serbia, but now it seems they have received funding from another country themselves. Vladimir Marovic, an opposition councilor, said this is hypocrisy and that the SNS is acting as a “mercenary” of China.
Marovic’s party has complained to the Anti-Corruption Agency about this breach of law. They have also informed Transparency Serbia, an organization that promotes transparency in government.
The Serbian law on financing political parties clearly states that foreign funding is not allowed, except for international associations. However, no institution has responded to this alleged violation so far.
