A worrying moment has arrived in Serbia. Sociologist Ivan Zivkov believes that the country is entering its third and last stage of autocratic rule.
In this final stage, the government no longer has a majority. The only way for them to survive is through violence against people, media, or by cutting off teachers‘ salaries.
“This can be good news,” says Zivkov, “but it’s bad because it may last and cost us dearly.”
**Failed Rally**
The ruling party, SNS, held a rally in Serbia today. It was meant to be their biggest gathering yet, but it failed to draw the expected number of people.
TV Nova S editor Mirjana Nikolic believes that this is not the end of the crisis. She thinks the government is trying to show that they have more support than they actually do by announcing a three-day rally.
The aim is to create an illusion that there will be many people attending, thereby highlighting the deadline for forming a new government or going to elections.
