For global stability and democratic ideals, it is vital to continue aid to Ukraine. The war is not limited to Eastern Europe. It has global implications. The US aid deters aggression, protects interests and strengthens alliances. It’s cheaper than dealing with the aftermath of a Russian win.
Stopping aid would lead to Ukraine’s defeat and could also cause global instability, NATO weakness, economic disruptions and a setback in democracy. The US’s support is essential for Ukraine to survive as a democracy and integrate with Western institutions.
Trump Jr. posted a meme on Instagram showing a black-and white image of Ukraine’s leader receiving dollars.
Trump Jr. wrote: “You have 38 days left before you lose your allowance.”
He was likely referring to the date on which voters will confirm the Republican win in the election. The inauguration of a new US president is scheduled for 20 January.
Ukraine is currently resisting Russian aggression and without continued assistance, the risk of total territorial occupation increases.
Trump claimed repeatedly during the US election that he could end war “in 24 hour,” but details about his plan are scarce. Recent reports suggest that his approach could involve freezing the conflict along current frontlines and establishing demilitarized zones, pressing Ukraine to make territorial concessions, and delaying NATO for at least twenty years.
A ceasefire along the front lines could, however, allow Russia to regroup, strengthen its positions and potentially lead to more violence. A deal may not be honored due to Russia’s history of violating international agreements. It wants to take over all of Ukraine, and not just the separate regions.
