**Ukraine’s Drones Hit Russian Oil Refinery**
Drones attacked an oil refinery in Russia’s Leningrad Oblast overnight on March 8. The attack was carried out by Ukraine’s military intelligence (HUR), according to a HUR source.
The drones targeted the Kirishinefteorgsintez enterprise in the Kirishsky district of Russia’s Leningrad Oblast. Russian air defense shot down two drones, one as it approached and another overhead. However, there were no reported casualties.
**Russian Air Defense Intervened**
Alexander Drozdenko, governor of Leningrad Oblast, said that Russian air defense systems successfully intercepted the drones. He added that the external structure of one of the tanks was damaged when debris fell from the shot-down drone.
**Impact on Oil Refinery and Ukraine-Russia Conflict**
The oil refinery is located over 800 kilometers away from the Ukrainian border and is considered one of the largest in Russia. The attack highlights Ukraine’s ability to strike deep into Russian territory, despite US intelligence sharing restrictions.
Ukraine has been using long-range drone strikes to target Russia’s oil refineries and other energy facilities, as these are a key source of funding for Russia’s invasion.
