Sources at the Security Service of Ukraine told the Kyiv independent on November 9 that Ukrainian drones had struck the Aleksinsky Chemical Plant, which produces gunpowder for the Russian military and ammunition, in Russia’s Tula Oblast.
SBU sources stated that at least 13 drones flew over the plant overnight. Orange smoke was also emitted due to the gunpowder on the site.
The sources confirmed that the gunpowder facility was the target. They added that the 110 kV had been damaged.
The Russian Defense Ministry announced on November 9 that Ukraine had launched drone attacks against seven Russian regions, including Tula Oblast. Moscow claimed to have shot down all fifty drones, two of which were over Tula Oblast located south of Moscow.
According to SBU sources air alerts started at 9:30 pm on November 8 and local residents began reporting explosions by 3 am. The source said that there was another explosion around 1 p.m. because the chemicals caught fire.
The SBU sources stated that “the destruction of weapons depots and military airfields, as well as enterprises that are part the Russian military-industrial system, reduces Russia’s capability to terrorize our nation.”
Kyiv, despite being limited to long-range kamikazes drones in recent weeks, has achieved some spectacular successes.
According to a Security Service of Ukraine source, one of the biggest explosions of the full invasion “literally wiped the face of earth” an ammunition depot in Tver Oblast was last month.
The U.K. Defense Ministry said that the combined strikes resulted in “the largest loss” of ammunition in Russia during its all out war against Ukraine.
